My art works are based mostly around timber craft. I use timber offcuts from the manufacturing process to make bowls, trays, furniture and other pieces, with each object being inspired by the material. Offcuts are a constructive resource in manufacturing where I have always endeavoured to minimise waste. Here I have used craft processes and materials as a catalyst for adding value where otherwise value may not be apparent in the plain material.
I regularly make new pieces, but I also make commission pieces on request. The image gallery shows some recent pieces I have made.
Objects
Unique interior Objects inspired by materials and process. The materials used are mostly offcuts from my workshop, and I have endeavoured to add value to this otherwise wasted resource through an artistic process.
The Swan Project
I have always loved boating. Growing up in Lahti, Finland, we spent our days on the water. Having wanted to build a boat for a long time I decided to start small and make my grandson a remote control timber boat as a present. This is a 1:25 scale of a Swan 53 yacht that I scratch built using plywood and timber. I made all the fittings and the keel in stainless steel. With the time it took with the intricate details, I could have made an actual boat, but I enjoyed the process!
Laine, meaning wave in Finnish, has had its maiden voyage. It will continue to be an ongoing project that I can enjoy with my grandson to fine-tune the details.
